Well... isn't the year just flying by? Welcome back! We have many exciting things planned this term and lots of learning to go along with them. See below for our term overview:
5/6 Unit Teachers: Tim Prendergast, Lisa Rochester, Zoe Billing
Non-Fiction – texts relating to our integrated studies topics and writing genres
Fiction – Class novels and texts relating to our writing genres
Comprehension – locating directly stated information, identifying the main idea and purpose of texts, summarising in our own words, predictions and inferences based on evidence supplied from within a text
Text types will include narrative, procedural, poetry, reviews and speeches. The writing process of planning, composition, editing and revising and then publishing will all be revised throughout each text type.
Key Concepts to Be Explored:
Integrated Studies – What super power would you have? (Chemical Science)
Students will develop an understanding of the composition and behaviour of substances. They will formulate a testable question with guidance and make predictions about what factors affect the speed of a chemical reaction. Students will plan and conduct a fair test of a chemical reaction and identify patterns in their findings. They will describe reversible and irreversible changes and the factors that affect such changes, for example, the addition or removal of heat energy.
Students will also develop an understanding of the nature of matter and energy. They will investigate the different types of light and how people and plants use them.

This week the kids participated in a numeracy incursion. Below are the pictures.
Can you believe that we're over half way? Another busy week. We've started looking at discussion texts and their structure. In the coming weeks we will be writing our own. This term we've been looking at globalisation and the ethical dilemmas it brings. We have started a project on this topic. In maths we've been looking at multiplicative thinking and converting mass. For more information about our week- see your child's website.
A reminder that next Tuesday is a curriculum day so no students are to be at school. Wednesday is athletics for some students. Thursday we have a 2 hour maths incursion and on Friday is our usual Peer Support sessions. Another big week to come!
5/6C worked hard last term creating their own books in Italian. Below is the link to their work:
To celebrate book week this year there will be a special dress up day and parade. Please find the note below. This will be coming home in hard copy in the coming weeks.
And the kids just keep getting better! A very well done to all the 5/6s this week with another successful session of Peer Support. Below are some pictures of them in action!
